A song written with Revelation 21 in mind, sort of about September 11

verses:
In the shadows I walked
Lip service to all that Jesus talk
Waiting for that plane to take me away
From my heart-shaped rock

I woke up and said my prayer
Never expecting to find you there
But I turned on my Hollywood picture box
And down fell my childhood house of blocks

And now this is the faith we sing
The true meaning of everything
with our blinders on now just as tight as before
We can't blame someone else when we hit the floor

Well imagine a world we just can't see
Imagine a world that can never be
Where the beasts and the prey live in harmony
And fear is gone, sweet liberty

chorus:
There's a peace I'll never know
And a world that's not yet shown
I'm scared and lost and all alone
And I can't make it on my own

And for this my soul is yearning
While smoke rises from cities burning
The changes for a man discerning
Since the day the world stopped turning

solo

verses:
In the shadows I walked
Lip service to all that Jesus talk
Waiting for that plane to take me away
From my heart-shaped rock

But now I wake up and say my prayer
Fully expecting to see you there
And it'll be the day for which I'm yearning
The day the world stops turning
The day the world stops turning
I'll see you there

I did a bit of a re-write :)

In the shadows I walked
Lip service to all that Jesus talk
Waiting for that plane to take me away
From my heart-shaped rock

I woke up and said my prayer
Never expecting to find you there
But then I turned on the TV and the sky fell down
Now I can't tell a change from the clouds to the ground

And now this is the faith we sing
The true meaning of everything
They say everyone's looking to fill up the hole
But there's nothing in this world to satisfy the soul, well

chorus:
There's a peace I'll never know
And a world that's not yet shown
I've tried to make it on my own
I always seem to end up alone

Day by day your stomach churning
The smoke thick from cities burning
For this day the heart is yearning
Since the day the world stopped turning

solo

And I wait for you
And I wait for you
I wait, I wait
How long, O I can't wait anymore

verses:
In the shadows I walked
Lip service to all that Jesus talk
Waiting for that plane to take me away
From my heart-shaped rock

But now I wake up and say my prayer
Fully expecting to see you there
Wherever I go I'm waiting for
The day the world stops turning
The day the world stops turning
I'll see you there

I really liked it. You certainly have a gift! I am sure to hear it with music and someone singing it that it is beautiful.

That's beautifull. I do like the Holleywood picture box line better then TV though. :) I too would love to hear it with music.

I liked that line better too, but I think the new one fits better into the overall scheme of the song. It makes it a little more depressing, a little more longing. Plus, I've thought the "house of blocks" line was cheesy ever since I first wrote it and I couldn't think of a better rhyme. I haven't yet got to the point where I can stand to write things that don't rhyme in some sense ;)
