I wasn't sure where to post this but I think this is the right place. Just wondering if anyone could help me with a particular web desgin issue I've been trying to figure out. Does anyone know how to change the colour of the scroll bars? Kind of like they have done on this site (they are purple instead of boring grey). Is it **********, CSS, or just plain HTML? If someone knows and could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Ummm... I'm not sure why the word Java-scrpit is banned, but oh well. I figured out the scrollbar thing on my own... and it is a Java-script based solution... thanks everyone... and if you ever need to gt a hold of the code... just ask me.

mine are purple. here is the source code i cut and pasted from the view source option in the menu at the top of the screen.

<html>
<head><title>ILJ Boards - Web page help...</title>
<meta http-equiv="MSThemeCompatible" content="Yes">
<style type="text/css">
BODY {
SCROLLBAR-BASE-COLOR: #606096;
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: #FFF788;

I didn't play with it, cuz I don't remember html well enough, but it seems to be part of CSS and you would want to have that as a default feature in one page so that it is repeatedly looked up. It makes it a lot easier to do changes if you only have to change code in one spot versus 3000 spots.

Thanks Trixipup... now I know two ways to do it... I didn't know you could use CSS to do it too. Two ways are better than one :)

P.S. - I will actually be posting the links to my web pages as soon as they're done...

The thing you use to navigate through a page. Its on the right and you use it to "scroll" to the bottom of a page if its larger than your screen.

Hmm....I guess that is one of those "DUH!" moments.... My scrollbar is grey too. I think that's probably why I was confused cause I didn't think you could have different colours for those....yeah, that's it! I knew there was a good explanation for why I couldn't figure out what a scrollbar was. :biggrin: Phew, I'm not so dumb afterall.....no need to comment on that.

Hello folks,

some of you may see the scrollbar colored some not. Netscape browsers don't support most CSS so be careful when using it.

Hey Tofu... I know Netscape is kind of twitchy when it comes to CSS... would the java script method of colouring the sidebars theoretically work in Netscape too?
