When I was probably like 8 or 9 I went to a Babbie Mason concert..and absolutely loved it..she was my favorite singer for quite some time. I got a shirt at that concert that I wore for like 5 years..lol. A few years ago one of my friends was dating her son..and even then I was all like.."oooooooooh...Babbie Mason!" lol - anyway - the other day I was singing one of her songs, and my mom happened to find her tape that is now quite old and used..and I wanted to share the song with you all, this is what I drove my parents crazy with by singing it non-stop when I was 10 :)

Carry On

A little old lady went to talk to her preacher
This is what she had to say
She said, "Some of our members have been carryin on
And acting in a very undignified way
They've been saying 'Amen" in the middle of the service
Shoutin' out loud and it makes me nervous
Preacher, I've had about all I can take
Please do something for heaven's sake."

Well, the preacher thought about it for a minute or two
About the way it used to be
Wehn the services lasted for under an hour
And nothing counted for eternity
You see the choir used to sing and the people would stare
The invitation came, but the alter was bare
He said to the sister as he showed her the door,
"I'll do something, and that's for sure."

The very next Sunday as he started his sermon
This became his number one goal
To remind the people of how it used to be
Before the Lord came and took control
He said, "Some of our member have been carrying on
Lifting their voices and praising the Lord
Others don't understand why you act this way
But this is all I have to say:

Carry on brothers and sisters
Carry on misses and misters
You see, it does not matter what others say or do
Carry on
If the Lord has been good to you
You can praise the Lord
And even raise your hands
Shout hallelujah and say 'Amen'
The church has been quiet for much too long
Brothers and sisters, carry on."

The Lord opened up the windows of heaven
And His bglory is filling this place
The Spirit of the Lord is moving among the people
There is a smile on each and every face
So let the preacher preach
And let the saints respond
Get behind us Satan, we are carrying on.

Carry on brothers and sisters
Carry on misses and misters
You see, it does not matter what others say or do
Carry on
If the Lord has been good to you
You can praise the Lord
And even raise your hands
Shout hallelujah and say 'Amen'
The church has been quiet for much too long
Brothers and sisters, carry on.

Of course it's much better with Babbie singing it ;)..what do ya'll think?

I love that song. I'm totally into that jazzy/swingin' stuff anyway. Some friends of mine, plus my brother and I, got together and worked up a few songs last summer. Our hometown has a big annual rodeo/festival/party. Last summer we incorporated a gospel tent for the first time. Brought in some southern gospel acts as headliners, and locals for opening acts. Anyway, "Carry on" was one of the tunes we selected. It was a lot of fun. We actually played instruments and sang, while the headliner mostly used track CDs. I might be biased, but I think the people enjoyed us more than the headliner, which is unusual, because we're always present, and the headliners were something new.
HP: have you got any of her new stuff? Big band stuff! I don't have any, but I'm looking into getting a hold of some. I heard her live last August in Estes Park Colorado for the annual "Christian Artist Seminar in the Rockies" .

That sounds like fun! :)

I only have her Carry On album and her Christmas one - I really need to get some of her new stuff - I didn't even know she did big band type music! I'm gonna have to go check that out.
