But I still really like Petra. Mostly the stuff from the late 80's and early 90's. I wish they would go back to the hard rock type that they were before. If they did, they could give any current band like Creed, Lifehouse and all those a good run for their money.

BUT THIRD DAY IS REIGNING AT THE TOP!:p

Whoever put Creed, think again. Scott Stapp has been making jokes saying he was Jesus lately. Also, they have parties at bars while on tours. I'm not making it up, it was all on VH1. They had a special on them & showed them partying AND Scott in his 'Jesus outfit'.

Kristine

My favorite artist isn't listed, but it would have to be Keith Green. Aside from his amazing piano talent, Keith's songs are so hard-hitting and filled with a truth that is unmatched in most Contemporary Christian music today.

Keith wrote songs that challenged the Christian church and were made to make people feel uncomfortable about their laid-back pew-sitting lifestyle.

One only needs to hear or read the lyrics to his songs to know that he took the Christian faith seriously. Songs like 'Asleep in the Light' ('The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church just can't fight, cause it's asleep in the light; How can you be so dead, when you've been so well fed...) share a message still needing to be heard today.

Keith was also brutally honest in his songs, about his own walk with God. "I don't want to fall away" "Because of You" and countless other songs revealed his own awareness of his human inadequacies and God's ultimate, universal Holiness and supremeness. It's his honest prayerful confesions in his songs, and his many spiritual kicks in the butt that have given me strength during times of spiritual struggle... it's truly rare to see an artist be so real in his music.

Don't even talk to me about Plus One or other 'Christian' fluff music. It's ok to have some fun, enjoyable songs (even Keith had a couple of those), but without meat, it's like trying to chew on cotton candy.

I would put Keith up there with the great hymn-writers of the faith (he did after all write "Make my life a prayer to you" and "to obey is better than sacrifice") The world lost a great thing, when it lost Keith Green.

My favorite artist is Rachael Lampa that is scary.

I really like Keith Green's "Asleep in the Light"... and the lyrics from some of his other songs (they could use some new music, though). I feel the same way about a lot of Larry Norman and Randy Stonehill songs.

Balaam's Talking Mule
Philmore
The Cross Movement
Dogwood

Chris, you said of Keith Green's songs "I really like... the lyrics from some of his other songs (they could use some new music, though).

That's interesting. What songs are you refering to and what would you recommend as an overhaul to the music? Perhaps it's just that I've been raised on this music and still love the oldies style of music, but I personally love Keith's songs the way they are.

I know that there was a recent recording of Keith Green songs produced by big-name artists. They might have more of the modern style of music you may be looking for.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

O gosh I would so totally have to agree with you there... it seem like they're Christians that are made up to be like NSync and Britney Spears... too fraudish. And also alot of their songs you cant even tell that its about Jesus and God... that bugs me too much. It sounds like they're just talking about their girlfreinds/boyfreinds.
