Armour Bearer

Can someone please tell me the function of an armour bearer as it pertains to the church today. And does anyone have a bible study that they would like to share on being an armour bearer.

The armour bearer was originally one who carried the armour of a soldier and most especially of a king, prince or other leader. This was a position of trust and honor. The armor bearer was a close companion of the one whose armor he carried and was entrusted with the responsibility to keep the armour (protective gear and also the weapons) in good condiytion and ready to use at all times. One example which is often used is Johathan and his armour bearer winning a great victory in 1 Samuel 14.

In some modern church groups the term is used today as one who defends and helps those in ministry. For example there may be a group who are called the pastors armour bearers in a church. Their role is to pray for the pastor, keeping the pastor's shield at ready in the spirit against all attacks and asking God to keep the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God ready and appropriate in the pastor's ministry. In some cases this group of people also have the responsibility of dealing with anyone who is inappropriately critical of the pastor or other church leadership. Evangelists and others who travel in ministry may have a trusted assistant who goes out in ministry with them as Johathan's armour bearer went into battle with him. This person attends to many practical details, helps in the ministry, and also acts as a defense by being present so no one can say that anything was done or said that did not happen and to lessen the chances that temptations may be offered to the person ministering.

I don't know of a specific study that has been published on the subject but when I see Mighty Warrior on Thursday or Suday I will ask since their ministry includes that position when one of them is traveling alone.

For the life of me I can't remember the author's name but there is a book on the market called God's Armour Bearer. I'll do a search and see if I can come up with the author.

I found it. The author of this book is Terry Nance. You can get it online at Barnes and Noble for sure and there are probably plenty of others if you don't have a local Christian book store
