Um, well, I am not totally sure of what I believe in, excluding my belief that the Lord God created me to do His good work and He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to pay for my sins. I think I believe that in Genesis, when it says that God created the Earth in seven days, that a "day" might have been any length of time, thus allowing evolution to occur. I think I believe that the "Big Bang" happened, and that that is what created the Universe. But I think that God caused the Big Bang, therefore creating us, His beloved children. I am a Christian, and I love God and Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, but sometimes I worry that I am believing in the wrong thing. And truthfully, even if you tell me that there was no big bang, I will probably have a hard time accepting it, as I have been brought up sharing the beliefs of my parents, which are as previously stated.
And, if it matters, I am only 13 years old.
Thanks for your help. :)
Hello and welcome to ilj
You believe the most important things a person can believe at any age "the Lord God created me to do His good work and He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to pay for my sins."
May I ask a question about this belief? Do you believe it because you have personally received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior or because your parents say it's so or a little of both? There is no wrong answer to this it will just help us understand each other more if we each know where the other is coming from. If it's OK with you I'd like to know the answer before I answer your question because it will help me give you an answer that will mean something to you and hopefully be useful. So please post back to me, OK?
Hello again
I've been hoping you would post back and we could talk about this some more. Maybe you will at least see this post. The reason I asked you "Do you believe it because you have personally received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior or because your parents say it's so or a little of both?" is that the answer would help me know how to give you an answer that would meet your need.
It's kind of basic really. We believe that Jesus dies for us because someone we trust says so. But how do they know? and If we want to know for sure ourselves how can we find out? As Christians we believe that what the Bible in Romans 3:23 says about every one of us having sinned and been less righteous than God is is the truth, don't we? We believe the wages of sin is death and the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus because the Bible tells us that in Romans 6:23. We believe For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Because the Bible says so in John 3:16. We believe God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved because the next verse John 3:17 says that. If the Bible is not telling us the truth we can't be sure about salvation. We can be sure enough about sin and evil, all we have to do is look around us to know that's very real. We can see Jesus in lives He's changed, in people who know Him as their Savior and their Lord. BUt how did they get to know Him? How do they know that He is real? In the end it all comes down to because the Bible says so.
If we believe the Bible about a big important thing like going to heaven not to hell, if we base our whole lives on being one with God through Jesus Christ because the Bible says so why would we not believe about a comparitively small and far off thing like how the world is made? On the other hand if we start cutting the first 2 chapters of Genesis out of the Bible where do we stop? When do we decide we will believe again? At what point do we figure that it is God's word again or if we do believe it is His word when do we figure He started telling us the truth?
I know that sounds pretty hard but that is really how it is.
Here are a few links that will help you look at this from the science side too. You will find that science does agree with the Bible a whole lot more than you may have been told it does.
