10 Years of ILJ. Hard to believe the time has gone so quickly. A bit sobering, really.

I suppose when I came to ILJ back in the day (and I honestly can't remember what year it was), I came to stir the pot. The forums at the time had a lively debate section, and I was looking for debate and discourse. Having been a commited Christian for the first 20 years of my life, I was seeing the first cracks in the shell of the mainstream Christian theology that I had once embraced and defended.

The "real" world, unfortunately did not afford me the opportunity to hash out my new found views - as it was all just a little "too close to home". It was honestly to difficult to discuss anything about my religious beliefs without things being personal. The internet provided a forum that removed that difficulty (to a point).

When I came to ILJ, their debate section was VERY lively. There was lots of interaction, and often times, hot heads (my own included, from time to time, I am sure). It became a struggle for the board management to support their pro-christian viewpoint, and have board members persistantly suggesting other points of view.

The debate forum didn't last. It was a great loss for me, and others (Vinnie Sampone comes to mind - I wonder where he is these days...). I did get to be a moderator for awhile in a little "island" of the forums that allowed for civil debate - but no matter the form it took - civil or otherwise, persistant presentations of views outside the mainstream Christian movement really couldn't find a comfortable home here.

For many, I think this was a blessing, but for me, it certainly robbed the place of it's character, and, well, it's ability to represent an interchange of ideas that represented some reflection of "the real world".

Whatever my dissapointment with that personal loss may be, there were many, many kind souls on this forum, and I see that many remain still. It was a treat to get an email from Ann to remind me about this occasion, and I'm glad for the opportunity to leave my mark here once more.

I hope you are all doing well, and enjoying the blessed struggle that is life.

My husband likes to debate things. It somehow helps him get things straight in his head. I wonder how many other people for whom that was true when the debate boards were in their day?

Hummm you are not that far from Pastor Les - when Les is in one place if ever maybe we could get the two together and let them go at it

"The Way We Were"

Hey, Pelvidar! This is the first time I've been here in years!

I remember those debates...Pelvidar, Vinny, crazyfingers, Tollhouse, beachbum, et al. It was fun until they pulled the plug.

Actually, I haven't spent any time on any forum for several years. Life happens--when we least expect it.

Anyway, Happy 10th!

I'd tell you but this thread is about good memories.

Suffice it to say, it threw some curves that I never saw coming!

May of 2000 is when you joined :canada:

Hope you are well, old friend.

THe rest of you as well. I remember the old discussion forum. I remember so many things about this place. I forget that I was an admin here for a while

I think I did a good job for a while until my views started progressively getting liberal. Then friction started happening.... But before then I never did ban Flannel ...though I can't say the same of abusing the lack of flood control for administrative personel :angel::angel:

Miss you all. Thanks for the great history and the growth and changes that ensued from our times back in the day!!! Thank you!

Vinnie

What? What! An admin at ilj abuse the lack of flood control or threaten to make it 30 min just for Flannel? Surely not. :D

Hi Vin glad to see you haven't forgotten this place. How are you?

I am atually doing good, Ann. How are you faring these days? I am 3 years into getting my degree in secondary education and still working at the same restaurant. I found a nice girl that will actually put up with me (It must be love!!!--well, it started infatuation and over three years has grown into love at any rate).

I don't think I could ever forgt this place, not permanately at any rate! Its a part of who I am today and I met too many amazing people here along the journey.

Thanks for asking. Things are better. You may or may not have known that in Dec 2003 Charles dr changed one ofr his meds to something that had a very adverse reaction (like no breathing or heart beat when he got to hosp) We were blessed with a good ambulence crew but the fdrs still said if he ever breathed on his own it would be months. He was out of ICU in 24 hrs.2 days later Dr Villa Nueva walked into his hosp room and said "See You See what God did. He did it all. You're going home today." He was better officially but not yet well. He slept a lot had some terrifying low blood glucose reactions and seemed withdrawn,he could talk but just seemingly wouldn't. Only later was he able to tell me that he could say any words he thought of but he couldn't think of them. He is a lot better. Sometimes I wish he's hush and not interrupt me when I'm doing something but only for a second and then I remember to be thankful even if he is driving me up a wall. A lot changed for both of us but is getting closer to what used to seem like normal. A lot of ilj ppl prayed for us through the hardest parts. Stilol do pray for us. Asy ou and Pel said sometimes net is more real than so called real life.
