View Full Version : When did you you come to ilj?
Hw long have you been at ilj? What brought you here?
i did a search for 'jesus message boards' on yahoo and this is what showed up! nearly 4 years now! i'll admit Ann is a large part of why i was motivated to stay...
According to my profile I have been here since April of 2003. Wow! A little under being with ILJ for half it's 10 years. I had done a search of Christian message boards. Looked at a few and found this to be the friendliest.
Thank you, Paulo. Lately you have been a big part in keeping the bds lively and I appreciate it a lot.
It has been a long time ...
Several years ago my daughter and I tried out making web pages..
We learned a little together and it was fun..but we needed help and we were directed to this site in the help section of ILOVEJESUS.com ..
We never come to the boards though..
Then a long time later for a reason I just do not recall now..I started posting to this board..had no experience with boards ..:hmm:
Oh my dear now I remember..
chuckle chuckle...I had forgotten...got off to a really bad start.. .. :argue:
Like I said , totally new to cyberspace chats and stuff.. almost went away but decided to hang in there a bit and see if I could "fit in" here... :grandma:
Glad I did...this site has been a blessing since that time...:ghug:

Looking for a Christian message board in 2005 and I saw your link. I like the
homey feeling I get from fellow posters who give of themselves and like Paulo
said Ann IS A BIG PART OF IT naturally.
" HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY " !!!.
Gracias. For me it is just giving back a little of what ilj has been for me. More on that later.

It looks like August of 99. To me thats simply amazing, I've been here through the birth of my last 2 children. I guess going on 9 years. So I'm almost here from the beginning. I was looking for "christian message boards" because I was spending alot of time in chat rooms with my husband working days (4a. to 3 p.) so he went to bed early and with the babies, I seemed to always be awake.
So Happy Anniversary ILJ and thanks so much to those who kept it alive even during the bad times.
We have lost a few in the flames but gained so many over the time. We are divinely favored.
The short story is we have a site on ilovejesus.com http://www.ilovejesus.com/missions/a-caring-place and there was a link to ilovejesus.com message bds I followed it sometime in the fall of 1998 and signed up in October of that yr.
The longer story is that the Lord led me here when I needed the boards and the fellowship here desperately. We had been part of a church that became like our family then in fairly short succession the founding pastor there became ill and left the area, the board decided to do without a pastor for a while which meant that Charles who was the only ordained minister on the bds got to do a lot of day to day pastor-ish things like visiting the sick, hearing people's problems, helping folks in need, etc. and various ppl including us and some visiting preachers filled in at the pulpit. The church board finally decided they needed a new pastor, called one and he came and them quit w/in 60 days and then later came back. Charles strongly supported him throughout all that. Charles had surgery in spring of '98 and got a horrible post surgical infection and was away from church bec he was contagious. This church had been our family and really the only ppl we knew up here we knew in some way through the church. Apparently the feeling was that if he did not come to church no one should talk to us even tho they knew he was sick. (There were two exceptions to that Mervin who became his second or 3rd mama and once in a while another lady would call at first) and when he could come back the pastor saw him and Caring Hands as a threat. It was a very ouchy, very lonely time and I was hurting a lot yet all the Lord would let me do was say God bless you whenever a new volly was hurled. We knew we had to leave but the Lord kept saying not yet. In the midst of all this I was working at a job that required that I be at work and on line to catch emails but do little else during a change over within the business. I started hanging out at this board and posting some answers in the prayer bd and Marilyn made me feel welcome and cared about. ilovejesus.com became the place that I could fellowship and share. The Teen Scene folks inspired and encouraged me so much. Of course I was far far from teen but they had such an eagerness for Jesus and so much good sense in the Lord that I loved to read their posts. The Lord did lead us to another church and then to Whole Word. Caring Hands continues to express His love in practocal ways. For updates see http://www.caringhandsministries.com I've been here through some great times and a few times I never ever want to go through again, through times when you could not read fast enough to read all the posts before there were all new ones and through times when I wondered if anyone would post at all that night.
Thank you all for letting me fellowship with you and grow with you in Jesus and for being my friends. Thank you for praying for us so so many times and being there for us when Charles died and Jesus raised him up again and in the days and years since then. God bless you.

Hi all,
It's been so long since I've posted here I wonder how many people still know me.
Well, back in 2001, I had begun friendly online chatting which led to more with a user named ISDAman.
Every week he used to post "Friday Night Sermon" here on ILJ. He encouraged me to get to know people over here and even created my first username, SweetM, and password as I had never done anything with message boards before.
We married in 2002, and while life itself has thrown plenty of curveballs and heartache our way, he is the love of my life. We just celebrated our 6th anniversary!
Ann asked me to come back and post updates on how we all are so I'm starting another thread to do so. I would love for everyone else who feels up to it to post what's happened in there lives since joining as well. My post will be LONG! Our life is blessed, filled with love and complicated!! But while we seem to move from one crisis to another, God is there through it all.
Thanks for asking me to pop by, Ann. I forgot how much I missed it.

A search for "upside-down crosses" brought me here. No joke. I was in a debate on another message board and was looking up info on that subject, and was lead to a thread here on this board. I browsed around, liked what I saw, and decided to join. I can't believe that was almost 8 years ago!! I was once a moderator and administrator, and had to settle many a fight in my day LOL.
Anyway, I've gone through many changes since then - some good, some bad - but ultimately all for the best. And a lot of the friends I met through this place are no longer around. But I still enjoy coming around every now and then when the mood hits me.
Good to see you here Maria. Hope you will make a habit of coming by again.
Upside-down crosses? Really, Bren!? We do get into the strangest things here sometimes? Anyway I'm glad you're here. I do miss our half the night IM sessions.

Hi Maria! I remember you :)
I came here 2005 as it says below my name lol looking for a place to share my poetry:) and i have shared how many poems so far Juliet queen of the archives?:)
I lost count! hehe! That's okay though. That reminds me...I am really far behind on my updating. Let's see.....research paper, study for medical terminology test, figure out the math for the next week of class since I won't be able to go, and update the archives. Yep. It's official. Sleep will be eluding me.
its ok, my poems can wait. not even sure i can get copies of my new book to sell because havnt gotten enough support for the first book to sell. so not sure if my parents will help me out again so i might be on my own. so i might be too bumbed to write:(
I just checked my join date--I can't believe it's been almost five years! October 2003 was when I joined. It was pretty active, and a wide spread of opinions between left and right. I came because I was looking for ideas for topics for another message board I belonged to. Then, I stayed because I liked it.

I think I first came by in late 98 or early 99... I really don't remember for sure. How I came to be here was just by chance. I used to post all the time on the world wide message board and we had a really great group for fellowship there. One day the board started having some major issues. we had a hacker from india who kept messing with things. finally nate the master there said he was shutting it down till further notice for maintanence issues. he gave us two weeks notice so we could all find somwhere else to post. It just happened a good frined of mine named Robin aka daisy had found the old college rage she invited us their and about five or six of us came over. since then this has been my favorite place on the net though I seldom make it here anymore.
Can it be????????????????????? An sighting of the rare and wonderous scarcecrow? :faint:

Anyway I'm glad you're here. I do miss our half the night IM sessions.Late nights are a thing of the past for me now. (that is, if you consider going to bed at 1am "early"). Some mornings I'm getting up when used to I was just turning in LOL.
But I am sure your precious little one is well worth it. He is so adorable Bren!
Scarecrow? Is that you?

A little over two years now for me. I think I came here because the other Christian forum I was on was getting too confrontational for the two or three of us who posted the most. Walker posted a link to ILJ on that website and I followed it here.
Of course, when I came here I came with all my 'answers' and understanding. I came educated beyond my obedience. But over the past couple of years God has thrown some challenges my way. He's caused me to rethink what I know and to look at myself honestly. I'm not the same as I was two years ago, thank God; but it's also a bit of a curse because I know better now that there is no straight and narrow path. My journey has wandered to and fro, uphill and downhill, around turns where I didn't know what was on the other side. I've grown tired of looking for the end of the destination and sometimes I just sit down in the middle of the road and veg out; experiencing neither spiritual growth nor decline in faith.
I have a few good reports. My daughter is still fighting cancer, it hasn't won yet. She's due in April, so please pray for the baby's health as well as my daughter. He's a boy:) I've also met someone online and we're in love. Not the best way to meet, but God works in His own ways. We're meeting for the first time in April, but we've been writing and talking to each other for about a year now. We both want a long, Godly marriage and are so grateful that God cares so much for us that He brought us together.
I haven't been here much because I'm working two jobs and I'm always tired and never caught up at work. Even now I should be working, so I'm going to get back to it. Just wanted to say Happy Anniversary to ILJ and thanks to Ann and the other admins who keep this site working and blessing others.
God bless.
she is a good friend isnt she larry:) assuming your talking about Pam. im happy for you both. and i pray for your daughter and grandson everynight.
Congratulations Larry! On the being in love and on the coming baby. I didn't know your daughter is expecting but I have thought of her often and wondered how she is. Maybe you and Maria and Keith can swap stories about on line romances :) God bless you all. Please let us know about the baby....more posts sooner would be way OK too,.

I remember in January 2002 I was actually looking for another Christian forum,as well as a specific Christian forum I was already a member of having been a member of one that had to close it's doors the first MB I ever joined, was lookig for another one to join, and trying to find one I was a member of so I could get back to it with my other account DonnaSugarPlum, and the forum showed up in my search results at first I never posted that regularly but that changed because I realized secular forum was the worst place to post my problems unless it was for depression or self-harm,and got my feelings hurt a lot,I don't remember everything just that once I started to feel better by posting my problems here when I was upset I started doing it all the time because it always helps me even when I don't post everything as I should.
I remembered that back then I had made a lot of friends on the Christian MB that closed, and I wanted to go to another one,and do the samething.
Seems like 6the Lord re-routed you to this one. :spin: :)
