NEED FOOD, OR HAVE NO WHERE TO STAY, SERVICES FOR HOMELESS, PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS
Food http://www.feedingamerica.org - look for the directory of foodbanks by zip code. The food bank can then put you in touch with one or more places near you that give food to people in need.

Food Banks, soup kitchens, shelters, an online directory.
http://4homeless.hypermart.net/soup_kitchens.html This is not a complete directory but may help.
http://www.nationalhomeless.org/resources/local/local.html state by state directory of some though by no means all resources for help with homelessness

If you do not see the resource you need call or email the one nearest you and ask for a referral. Most have good info. Also Salvation Army in most places. Try United Way in the nearest good sized city for referrals to help.

School for Homeless kids http://www.serve.org/nche/states/state_resources.php http://www.naehcy.org/ Also help to aviod homelessness.
Every school system has a homeless student's advocate who should have information about other help resources. A CHILD DOES NOT NEED A HOME ADDRESS TO GO TO SCHOOL. if you are ever told you do please contact the website above immediately or email ann@ilj.com and I will help you8 find the person(s) in your area responsible for seeing that the child gets their rights to an education and the help they need. .

More info and resources on homelessness
http://www.nationalhomeless.org/needhelp.html

www.switchboard.com is an online resource where you can enter the help you need (for example "Social Service Agencies" or "Abortion Alternatives" ) and the city where you are or where the person who needs help is and find a listing of help sources. If that does not turn up what you need expand the search area to a 20-50+ mile radius around the location and of course make sure you have not made a typo which can keep the directory from finding what you need.

MEDICINE AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES
Ask your dr if ythey have samples of meds available. They are given them to give away.

www.needymeds.com Charles sis found this and it is the best source I have seen for info on pharmaceutical co patient assistance programs. This is usually for ongoing meds.

Wall-Mart has most generic meds for $4 for a month's spply, target does too or did and for a while and maybe still Publix was offering the first [rescription on any antibiotic free. A friend said in her raea KMart was matcing Wall-Mart on the generics so if you have KMArt not Wall-Mart call and ask

Salvation Army will generally help with prescriptions.

Most states have medicaid programs to help with kids and single parent meds at very low income levels and a chldren's health program for somewhat higher income kids. Call the DFACS or welfare dept in your area. You do niot need to give your name to ask a question.

Many state health depts also have medical clinics that offer low cost meds (50 cents to $2)

Mental health meds are often available through programs of state mental health dept and through pharmacy co patient assistance programs. see www.needeymeds.com

If all else fails on finding meds please email me caringhandsminuistries@hotmail.com and I will see what I can search out.

www.needymeds.com is a site that provides links to many drug co patiemnt assistance programs, disease related help, medical treatment help, all in one place in a searchable way. It shows income limits for the different programs. Many are much higher than you might think some 4x poverty line some up to $60,000 some based on what a person is having to spend of the med help they need.
