Greetings,
I had a thought earlier tonight, and I have decided to reserve a space here to explore it later on, but now it's time for bed.
I shall be back tomorrow to tell you more of my exciting new plans!
P.S. This has nothing to do with the feud with the Tyrant
Don't worry, you an edit it back LOL. Start up a serious thread and I won't edit it ;)

I was thinking and it occured to me that the Bible is a book!!! So, lets review the Bible! I think it would be fun and edifying for everybody to post their favorite books, passages, and so on.
I am kind of partial to I Kings 18 where Elijah goes up to Mount Carmel and God whoops up on Baal.
And I Samuel Chapters 5-7, where the Phillistines capture the Ark of the covenant, and then God makes 'em so misreble that they PAY to get rid of the Ark.
I'm in a bit of a hurry now, I shall elaborate later... unless a lot of people have decided they want to post here. In that case, I'll do something else...

Attention people, post and discuss your favorite Biblical passages, or else I begin strongarm tactics tomorrow!
I've always liked Paul's epistles- especially Ephesians
Though, my favorite Bible verse - or life verse I guess you could say is Phillipians 1:20

Very good.
Now somebody else tell us your favorite verse
(also tell us why, maybe even give a whole devotion on it...)
I'll be back tomorrow, I intend to post some more of my favorites, but I don't have a lot of time because I have a term paper due soon, so I don't think I can look up stuff and do it right...

Well, my favourites tend to be whatever I'm reading at that particular moment in time because as soon as I go on to something else, that becomes my favourite! :) Anyways, I'm reading Isaiah right now and I am quite fond of Isaiah's commission in chapter 6. Especially this part:
"At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
'Woe to me!' I cried 'I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.'
Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.'
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!' "
I think the image of the hot coal touching his lips and making him clean is really powerful. Yes, so that's my current favourite, though it will probably change tommorow! :)

ok, I figure I'll elaborate on I Samuel 5-7. I like it because the Phillistines have captured the Ark of the Covenant and placed it in the temple of dagon. When they show up the next day, dagon is faced down in front of the Ark! But do they learn?? noooooo! So they set Dagon back up and leave him again, and the next day he's in front of the Ark broken into pieces. So they move the Ark and all sorts of plagues follow wherever they take the Ark, so they start thinking that maybe that's what's causing all their problems. So they fill a cart up with gold and toss the Ark on it. They hook it to an ox that had never pulled a cart before and reasoned that if the ox went home, it was a coincidence, but if it went to Israel then it was God. The ox went to Israel... But what I find really amusing is that they had to coughed up a whole pile of money to get rid of something they stole. It was kind of like that story the Ransom of Red Chief.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into HIS likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (emphasis mine)
Isn't that just awesome?
The same radiance that Moses had after he had literally seen the Lord is in our hearts as Christians. God is right there with us. He no longer dwells in a tabernacle; His tabernacle is our body. We are free to speak to Him and be with Him whenever and wherever. And, the most amazing part - we are being transformed to His likeness...with ever-increasing glory. All of that glory goes straight to God, we just get to reflect it! That is just awesome!

my absolute favorite Biblical passage of all time is the valley of dry bones...
"Ezekiel 37
A Valley of Dry Bones
1The LORD took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the LORD to a valley filled with bones. 2He led me around among the old, dry bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground. 3Then he asked me, "Son of man, can these bones become living people again?"
"O Sovereign LORD," I replied, "you alone know the answer to that."
4Then he said to me, "Speak to these bones and say, `Dry bones, listen to the word of the LORD! 5This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Look! I am going to breathe into you and make you live again! 6I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' "
7So I spoke these words, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as they had been before. 8Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.
9Then he said to me, "Speak to the winds and say: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so that they may live again.' "
10So I spoke as he commanded me, and the wind entered the bodies, and they began to breathe. They all came to life and stood up on their feet--a great army of them.
11Then he said to me, "Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying, `We have become old, dry bones--all hope is gone.' 12Now give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the LORD. 14I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I am the LORD. You will see that I have done everything just as I promised. I, the LORD, have spoken!"
i first heard that in a song by a YWAM praise band... it started out with quiet, sort-of haunting music with a man reading this passage.. the music built up and built up until it was this beautiful, powerful tympani (sp? correct me, guys) and this eerie, electrifying orchestra in the background, meanwhile the man was building up his voice until he was shouting the part where the bones came to life.. i had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. i've been smitten with that passage ever since.. i even wrote the whole thing on my door once...

Just so Flannel will stop badgering people ;), My favorite passages are:
1Corinthians 13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Being Flannel's Senior Minion, I shoulda been the first one. But I've been EXTREMELY busy lately.
So here goes.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Philippians 2:3-5
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Matthew 5:44-46
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Matthew 25:35-40
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethre, ye have done it unto me.

Pssst, hey, try http://bible.gospelcom.net/ Do y'all really think I type out all these verses on my own? ;)
I am sure everyone here has this memorized, but it just seems much more beautiful & powerful when you look at it! And I normally quote from the NIV, but for this passage, there is just something about the KJV version that is so awesome! ( I am even going to make it "look pretty" because well, I have nothing better to do! :) )
Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Romans 9- That's an interesting passage. One of my favorite things about the Bible is that several passages are difficult to deal with- it's not all what we might necessarily want to hear. These passages make us think, and they ultimately make us stronger people. Romans 9 is definitely one of those passages.

A "real thread"? scuse? you mite wanna elaborate on that yourself.
ok Ecc. 12: 1-8
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say I find no pleasure in them before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark and the clouds return after the rain when the keepers of the house tremble and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few and those looking throught the window grow dim when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades when men rise up to the sound of birds but their songs grow faint when men are afraid of heights and the dangers of the street when the almond tree blossoms and the gr*****pper drags himself along and desire is no longer stirred Then man goes in to his eternal home and mourners go about the street. Remeber Him before the silver cord is severed or the golden bowl is broken before the pitcher is shattered at the spring or the wheel broken at the well and the dust returns to the ground it came form and the Spirit returns to God who gave it Menaingless Meaningless says the Teacher everything is meaningless!
I interpret it to mean to Befriend God and become His child before the world or you die. To not put off being saved.
Romans 8-
I am not going to type this one. It speaks of Life throught the Spirit and Future Glory to come. It also talks about Predestination...
Galations 6:1-7
Talks about Doing good to all
Ephesians 4:17-32
Talks about living as Children of Light
Those are some of many verses I like. If I come across some more will post them.:)
I love all of proverbs... but the one I like most is Proverbs 16:16
It is better, far better, to have wisdom and knowledge than gold and silver
It reminds me how important it is to not be ignorant so I can continue fighting for the Lord. I mean, who would take a person who knows nothing seriously when they tried to talk to you about beliefs? I know I wouldn't, so this reminds me I need to be armed with knowledge as well as understand and compassion in order to be a good warrior for God.
Ooh, Flannel... I thought you might like this verse. :D
Proverbs 28:16
"A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment, but he who hates ill-gotton gain will enjoy a long life."
Besides the obvious shot at Vinnie, I think this verse is actually pretty neat. It's a good reminder that cheaters never prosper.

Happy now Flannie? People are posting verses again.
I think a verse that really appeals to modern days is Corinthians 6:20. "You are not your own. You were bought at a price. Therefore, honour God with your body."
Especially when you look at the style most girls dress in, which is barely covering themselves up, this verse holds a lot of meaning today. Isn't it amazing how God's word upholds throughout time? It blows me away, really... and further prooves how awesome he really is.

Well I have lots as well. I highlight in one Bible what I want to remeber, and that Bible might be concidered glowing! Anyway on with the scriptures:
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(you have to understand my past on this one, which I rarely discuss as to not get evil looks. It hurts to even talk about my past not mentioning what exactly I'm talking about)
I also like Joshua and the battle of Jerhico. It's all about faith in God and obeying Him under any condition.
My favorite Book in the Great Book is James. Thinking of that it's been a long time since I've read James. I might take time tonight to do that.
Thank you all for reminding me to do my personal time tonight. :)

"The word of the Lord came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart: I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." "Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command of you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord." -Jeremiah 1:4-8

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknessess, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may recieve mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." - Hebrews 4:15-16
"Blessed is the manw ho perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will recieve the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." - James 1:12
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." - Philippians 1:21
Those are just a few for now!
