Well, now that the semester is over it's diet time. Since I was too busy to work out a lot during this semester I've put on about 15 lbs. Which need to go away before October. I'm making my own diet and excercise regimine that includes only whole foods and a lot of cardio. (in addition to weight training).
My wife is going great guns toward her first fitness competition. She dropped 5% of her total Body Fat in the first month, and her trainer says she gained 5 lbs of muscle mass to boot. She's REALLY leaning out, and he says that she will be down in the 6-9% BF range by contest time easy. (relatively speaking)
(I've never cooked so much chicken or bought so many eggs in my life)
:D
Since you know a lot about carbs I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.
1.) Do you know of any flavored beverages that don't contain aspartame or sugar? I am tired of just water and need something with flavor. (I am doing Atkins and I am doing real well. I have lost 16 lbs. so far and don't want to spoil my success by drinking something with aspartame or sugar.)
2.) Any good recipes for chicken? Of course sugarless and carbless (if possible).
Thanks HG. I really appreciate all the help you give me and all the information you share.
I am happy to hear of your wifes success so far. When is her competition?

Here's one from my wife's trainer (Ernesto Osario)
I'm not really up to date on the what's and where's of Atkin's, but I think this one is ok. This one has Splenda, and not aspartame:
Ernesto Osorio's Honey-Mustard Barbecued Chicken
Ernesto Osorio's killer recipe for a lean, mean, high protein barbeque favorite.

Ingredients
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup mustard
5 packets Splenda or other artificial sweetener
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (6-8 oz. each)
Directions
Preheat grill to highest heat setting. Mix soy sauce, vinegar, mustard and Splenda in a small bowl until well combined. Using a barbecue brush or pastry brush (or even an unused paint brush), brush both sides of chicken with sauce. Discard remaining sauce. Place chicken on grill and cook 3-5 minutes per side or until it's no longer pink inside.
Tastes really good and only has one gram of carbs per serving.
I make this for my wife all the time.
For more ideas you can go to Muscle and Fitness on-line, and check out the nutrition tab. (look under recipes)
Her contest is on November 13th. The NPC Texas State Championships....
Nothing like starting with a bang huh??
Is she nervous?
No ideas on beverages though huh? Oh well. The recipe sounds good though. I just might have to try it out. I have a GF grill that I just love. Okay, now you have gone and got me hungry. Oh, another question.(sorry) What is a good source of B complex vitamins? (Yeah I know. I am too lazy to look it up.)

Try Propel by Gatorade. It's got some calories, but it's ok as far as aspartame goes.
There's also a store brand flavored water at HEB that's pretty good.
And Randalls (or Tom Thumb, or safeway depending on where you live) has a product called Clear - it's carbonated, but it's sugar free, calorie free, and actually tastes pretty good.
I don't think she's nervous yet, she's too tired after working out. There's a Bodybuilding Competition in Houston that we are going to this weekend (the Labrada) her trainer and workout group will be there, and they promised to get her back stage so she can check it out. She's pretty excited about that.
Vitamin B?? I usually take a B-complex pill for that, but lean meats, eggs, bread, pasta (B1) poultry, most cereals are fortified with B-complex now. You pretty much will get the B complexes you need by eating a well balanced diet with few processed foods.
Thanks HG! I really appreciate all the info.
