Okay, something is wrong with my scale. And no, this isn't just wishful thinking. :p Every time I get on it, it says something different. And there's a big difference in what it's saying. According to my scale, I can gain or lose 7 pounds within ten seconds.

Being a girl, I won't admit my weight but let's say I'm a cat. I get on the scale. It says I weigh 13 pounds. That doesn't seem right, so I get on again, and it says 15.5. I get on again and it says 16.5. Then 15.5 then 10. I get on again and it says I weigh 12. Then 17.5 Then 14.5. I go through this every morning! I even changed the battery (it's a digital scale), and it's still doing this. IIRC, this scale wasn't cheap. It's always done this to a certain extent, but it seems worse now.

So anyway I guess I'll be in the market for a new one soon, any advice? What kind is the most accurate? and consistent?

We have one of those scales that's kind of like a doctor's scale where you slide the little weights on the bar and it tells you how much you weigh. It's pretty accurate. I used to wrestle so I was always interested in knowing my exact weight.

It's fairly big though, we didn't even have a space for it in our old house. The bathroom in our new house is larger, so we're able to use it now.

The kind bigkat has will be the most accurate, but I like the regular ones that look like odometers...(I'm not sure what they're called...:o ). With those you can at least set them yourself and they are pretty cheap. :)

Okay, here's the low down on digital scales.

They are very sensitive and just changing your position on the standing platform can make the differences you state.

For example:

First time you climb on the heels of your feet are just at the back edge of the scale. You weigh 134.

The second time you climb on, your heels are 2 to 3 inches further forward on the pad and you now weigh 140.

The trick is to get on the scale, take a permenant marker and mark where the end of your big toe is. Then every time after that when you get on the scale you line your toes up on the line you made with the marker.

How do I know???? I had to do this with my scale.

After my marker tip, I never varied more than about a pound from day to day.

Hi Pensee. I had the same problem with my scale (non-digital variety). Does your scale have a knob so you can zero it? When I want to zero my scale, I walk on and off a few times to "limber up" the springs then re-zero it. It seems to work great! Good luck.

Toss the scale, it does not tell you anything important anyway...

If you are interested in total well being, grab a tape measure and keep track of your waist and hip measurements. If your waist is bigger than your hips that is bad. If it is 10 inches less that is wonderful...we can dream huh??

Pinch the flesh around your midriff, if you pinch more than an inch that is bad...If you grab a spare tire's worth...that is awful!

When you begin a weight loss/workout regimine you will replace fat with muscle which weighs MORE per inch than fat! So though you are getting healthier and in better shape, your weight may actually INCREASE...

I say toss the scale and grab the tapemeasure!
