View Full Version : Stairs
I'm working on the top floor of a building (5 floors). I sit at a computer terminal for 8+ hrs, arg! and get really restless. The doors to the flights of stairs are locked (I sure hope they UNlock automatically in case of a fire) but I found one door that will unlock. So every once in a while, when I'm feeling out of energy and crosseyed, I jog up and down them a couple of times and get back to the office feeling very refreshed. It's only for about 5 minutes, so no real aerobic gain - it's mainly for a mental break. I feel a lot better afterwards.
How do you get exercise on the job? :)
I work at home so I shoot baskets at lunch in my backyard. I'll also do some sort of leg exercise like skipping rope or lunge walks. I sprained my ankle, but when it gets all better I think I'm going to try doing some sprints too.
After work I lift weights. At my old job, they had a weight lifting room on site so I could just go there after work and lift. Also during the week people would play either soccer, ultimate frisbee, or touch football at work (we also had a big soccer field). We had a flag football league there also, but then we had layoffs so during the post season, about half of the teams disappeared.
well..my job was (it's over now) to chase preschoolers around - so I took"sit down" breaks ;)
when I worked in an office though there was a looooooong hallway that connected two buildings complete with a couple flights of stairs - so I'd walk up and down that a couple times. Only took about 10-15 minutes - but it was worth it :)
At my first job, they had a basketball court in the basement. But then they started to put in these temporary walls for some reason (looked kind of like an indoor paintball facility). I don't think I ever saw anyone ever use the walls for anything. So you used to be able to play full court basketball, but after that you could only go up to around the free throw line or so before you hit a wall.

I work from home doing Web Design. It's perfect 'cause I can do my normal morning work out & still get work done!
