Okay so I have been doing this thing for about three months now. I didnt actually join or anything, but got all the info on the Point program from a friend's mom. Anyway, basically it's 50 calories equal one point. So far I've lost 16 pounds or so. It's nice because you can actually eat like normal stuff, just not a lot. However, I am only eating between 1,000 and 1100 calories a day. I do not do it on weekends at all, but am still losing.

The problem is since I have been losing the weight this way I have not been exercising as much...(okay I'll be honest, hardly at all). And the advice to do an exercise you like...I dont think there is an exercise I like,. I have never been sports oriented, at least not physically. And there really isnt any kind of activity like that I enjoy. Could I sound like any more of a sloth??

have you checked out a Curves gym?

I really wanted to join one - but financial situation at the time won't allow me that ;)

anyway - people I know who join that gym really enjoy it - they actually have fun at the gym ;)

you can check it out at www.curvesinternational.com

Hi Amy!
hmmm...I will try and think of something creative that you could do for exercise but still enjoy. It doesn't necessarily have to be something where you end up all tired and stuff, just something to get you up and moving around. I'll try and think of something...
I know I've read articles from some of Heather's magazines that say that you can do stuff during the day to increase the amount of exercise you do, like using the stairs instead of the elevator at work, parking at then far side of parking lots when you go places so you have to walk more to get to the store, stuff like that. I don't know how much it helps, but it's probably a good start I would think.

Hey! I've got it! How about a breakdancing class!!!

:spin:  <--- (these are the closest things that resemble breakdancing smiles)

Well Amy, it seems we share a lack of ..... motivation .... to get out there and MOVE IT! LOL I want to shed about 8 lbs. I could do it in a relatively short amount of time if I'd just get myself up from the computer every day and walk for 30 minutes. Might it have something to do with metabolism? But that's a subject for another thread.....

My mom joined Weight Watchers the week after my first daughter was born. She always chuckled about sitting in the waiting room (wearing a girdle) all day long - miserable - before I delivered. She did really well. Course that was back when you had to make your own condiments and did a LOT of broiling. She probably only had about 25 lbs to loose but she kept the weight off for the rest of her life. She always remarked that it taught her HOW to eat. Her family were very rural and she grew up on chicken fried in lard, fried potatoes, fried veggies.....fried everything.

:hyper: - I hereby declare this our official EXERCISE smilie! SO......

:hyper: = what Marilyn and Amy need to do more of! LOLOLOL

hey Amy!
I'm a weight watchers person since August of last year. I have lost 46 pounds so far and I love that way of eating. They actually teach how to eat and how to maintain after you lost what you want to lose. I suggest joining, though, because there is so much to glean from those meetings and the advice you can get there. You can get other tools to use as well like the slide ruler that helps you figure the points of certain foods. Also, not all blocks of 50 calories are the same. The fiber and fat factors in there as well. For instance, a 100 calorie, 1 fat gram food with 0 fiber grams is 2 points, but a 100 calorie, 1 fat gram food with 3 grams of fiber is 1 point! That's why I eat whole wheat bread (also because it's better for you) because 2 pieces of bread are 1 point together. The more fiber (and less fat) means lower points. Fat free Pringles are great if you aren't sensitive to the Olestra fat replacer. I love the sour cream and onion flavor. :yummy: Also, salads are great spacers to keep you from getting too hungry. You can have a tablespoon of most oil based (fat full) salad dressings for a point. I love the new Sun Dried Tomato dressing. It's fabulous on a salad with a pizza (yes, you can have pizza every once in a while) or spaghetti.

Anyway, I discovered that I like to ride a bicycle. Not speed riding or anything like that, but i bought a "granny" bicycle at Wal Mart with pedal brakes and i love it! I hate treadmills, etc. yuck Also, I have heard that yoga is really good for you and also helps relax you. I don't know that it would burn fat but it would probably help tone. Pilates is hard! At least my non-elastic muscles thought so. LOL I'm sure I would limber up if I kept it up. Getting motivated is hard but I have a picture of myself standing with my smaller sisters 46 pounds ago on the fridge plus a pair of size 18 shorts in the closet and that is motivation for me. :D

Nicole, yeah financial matters are an issue to join a place like that. I was unclear as to what Curves was. I thought it was for older women who were more than a hundred pounds overweight. I have no idea why I thought that. Maybe from the commercials? There is one by where my husband works. There is also a place on the bottom level of the mall near here called NuLady Fitness, which is just for women, but again it is pretty pricey.

Pam, yes I have the point counter thing and know to take ten calories off for every gram of dietary fiber. I really like this way of eating. It has really showed me how much extra junk I would eat and that I was eating it just for the heck of it. I do however take the weekends off from eating healthy. I know that may not work for everyone, as some people cannot stop once they start eating stuff they havent had in awhile, but it really has worked for me to do it that way. I have also noticed lately that even when I allow myself to eat more than I should I really start to feel sick!

Bigkat...Dale would probably really like it if I started breakdancing. I could be part of his show and carry around a piece of cardboard wherever I go. :D
